southernmedicine: (annoy)
I got in a (very) minor little car accident this evening on my way home from work.

I was stopped at a stop sign, waiting to turn right onto a road. There was a truck stopped behind me. There was a vehicle approaching. They might have turned onto the street I was currently waiting on, but they didn't have their signal on, so I was not about to just cut in front of them when waiting, you know, a few extra seconds for them to possibly drive by was not a huge deal.

All of a sudden, I'm jolted forward. The truck that was behind me, at a complete stop just like I was, had bumped into me. For literally no reason. I rolled my window down and asked if we could turn the corner and park in the lot to check our cars out, and the guy agreed.

There was no damage at all to my car luckily (and surprisingly!) and none to his truck, either. He explained that he had anticipated the approaching vehicle to turn and so had taken his foot off the brake in anticipation of moving, and then we didn't move.

I'm sorry, but what the fuck? If the car in front of you doesn't move, you're obviously not moving, either. Hello??? That was the sorriest excuse I've ever heard in my life. DUMB.

Listen, guys. Accidents happen. We're flawed and imperfect. But cars are multi-ton killing machines, and if you're going to get behind the wheel, you need to have your shit together. You can't just take your foot off the brake with a car in front of you when you THINK that you MIGHT go soon. Lord have mercy.

My back feels quite tight but I think that's just from the surprise and tension. I'm not hurt or anything, as he didn't even hit me hard enough to leave a dent or a scuff. I'm more ticked off than anything.
